This project merges an extensive early-1980s home remodel with a new downhill guest house addition to form a secluded family sanctuary. Tailored to the steep topography, the guest house serves a dual purpose as a retaining wall and a privacy screen. The structure features street-level vehicular access below, while upper spaces maintain direct visual and pedestrian links to the main house. A faceted green roof, planted with native prairie grasses, keeps the addition low to the ground—preserving sweeping views toward Lake Austin while masking downhill utility lines and neighboring roofs. This careful arrangement carves out a private central courtyard featuring a pool, play space, and outdoor dining area nestled under native Texas live oaks.
